Early Spring: Two Poems

on the old wooden shed
with the sagging door
and the broken lock
and the peeling green paint
and the warping wall planks
and the rusty steel roof
and the raccoon holes
and the tomcat smell
and the climbing thorn bush:
the first pale pink rose

sunlit flower
in the cornice of the house:
orchid in the hair
